AI sales agent

An AI sales agent is software that carries out sales tasks on its own using a language model: finding prospects, writing to them, answering their messages, qualifying their need, booking a meeting. It acts within goals and rules set by the company, and hands over to a human when needed.

What is an AI sales agent?

A classic automation tool runs steps fixed in advance: send this message on that day. An AI sales agent goes further: it reads a situation, decides what to do and writes the message itself. It answers a prospect who asks an unexpected question, adapts its message to the profile, judges that it is time to propose a call.

The word agent stresses that autonomy. The agent receives a goal (book a qualified meeting), context (your offer, your target, your tone) and limits (what it must never say or do), then acts within that frame.

People also say virtual SDR or AI setter when the agent focuses on booking meetings. The principle is the same: hand the repetitive work that comes before the sale to an AI, so humans can focus on the calls.

What does an AI agent do in B2B prospecting?

Depending on the tool, it covers all or part of the cycle: finding prospects who fit a target and evaluating their profile, writing a personalized first message from real information, following up at the right pace, answering questions, handling common objections, qualifying the need, proposing slots and booking the meeting.

Its strength is consistency. It does not get tired, does not fall behind on Fridays and handles a message received late in the day like one received in the morning, within the hours you set. In MimikFlow's 2026 LinkedIn Prospecting Observatory (published in French), 22.0% of replies to first messages arrived within the hour: an agent can handle them while interest is high.

Its limit is judgment. An agent recognizes a common question very well, a delicate situation or a negotiation much less so. That is why a good agent also knows when to stop and hand over.

Which guardrails should an AI sales agent follow?

Truth first. An agent must never invent a fact: a meeting that never happened, a customer that does not exist, an unverified number, contact details the prospect never gave. Every claim must trace back to a real source.

Respect next. A no must end the conversation, a 'later' must be logged with its date, and no pressure should be applied to get a yes. The agent must also respect the volume limits of the platform it uses.

Visibility last. A meeting only counts if it is actually booked, and every conversation must stay readable by a human, who can take over at any time.

How do you measure an AI sales agent's performance?

With the same metrics as a human rep: reply rate, meetings booked, meetings held, meeting quality as judged by whoever runs them. The number of messages sent is not a result.

Read a sample of conversations every week as well. The numbers tell you whether the agent books meetings, reading tells you how: whether it stays accurate, polite and faithful to your offer.

Finally, compare costs. An agent costs a subscription, a human costs a salary and management time. The math is done per qualified meeting booked, not per message sent.

Which mistakes should you avoid with an AI sales agent?

Launching it without a clear target. An agent amplifies the strategy you give it: with a fuzzy target, it contacts more of the wrong people, faster.

Leaving it unreviewed. In the first weeks, read the conversations, adjust the settings, sharpen the instructions. An agent improves with precise guidance.

Giving it what needs a human. A price negotiation, a complaint or a delicate personal situation should go to a person. The agent speaks on behalf of your company and must be able to hand you the conversation as soon as a question goes beyond it.

What does an AI sales agent look like on LinkedIn?

MimikFlow is an AI sales agent for LinkedIn. It finds prospects who fit your target, evaluates each profile before inviting it, writes a short first message from real facts, follows up, then answers prospects up to the meeting, which it books in your connected calendar. It then handles the reminder on the day and recovery messages if the prospect does not show up.

Its guardrails follow the principles above: contact details and links it cites are checked before sending, a review pass rereads every reply to rule out pressure, a refusal stops the sequence and volumes stay within cautious limits. When a situation goes beyond what the AI can state, the conversation comes back to you with an alert. The Test the AI workspace lets you try its behavior without sending anything, and the AI setter page covers the conversation side in detail.

What does it look like in practice?

Example

Example: a day in the life of the agent

An illustration. In the morning the agent finds twelve new profiles for an agency's target and sets aside five whose role does not fit. During the day it sends the invitations planned for that day. In the early afternoon a sales director replies to yesterday's first message: the agent picks up his sentence and asks a question about his team. By the end of the day the prospect describes his problem, and the agent offers two open slots. The next day the meeting is in the calendar. Another prospect asks for a detailed quote: her conversation goes to the human.

Still have a question about AI sales agent?

What is the difference between an AI sales agent and a chatbot?
A chatbot answers the questions it is asked, often on a website. An AI sales agent takes the initiative: it reaches out, follows up, qualifies and books, within a sales goal and rules set by the company.
Can an AI agent replace a salesperson?
It can take over the repetitive work that comes before the sale: research, first messages, follow-ups, qualification, booking meetings. The sale itself, the call and the negotiation, usually remains a human job.
How much does an AI sales agent cost?
Prices vary with the tool and the volume. MimikFlow lists its plans on its pricing page, with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required.
